The North Penn School District (NPSD) Board of School Directors would like to announce plans to appoint Dr. Todd Bauer as its next Superintendent. Bauer is a current NPSD assistant superintendent and will replace Dr. Curtis R. Dietrich when he retires as superintendent on June 30th.

“Dr. Bauer has spent the last seven years devoted to the mission of the North Penn School District, its students, staff and community,” said Tina Stoll, NPSD Board President. “From high school principal to assistant superintendent to now superintendent, his time helping to lead us before and after a pandemic has been transformational. We know he will take North Penn to remarkable new heights.”

The appointment will be made official at a public meeting once a contract is negotiated and the final steps in the hiring process are completed. His 100-day entry plan includes garnering stakeholder feedback to gain varied insights on the North Penn experience, developing a new three-year Comprehensive Plan, prioritizing staffing in all areas of the organization, beginning to build community engagement for the NPHS renovation project, and enhancing key partnerships.

“I am truly honored to be selected as the next superintendent of the North Penn School District. It is my pledge to this community that I will continue to work tirelessly to elevate NPSD to new heights as we prepare our students for success in and out of the classroom” said Bauer. “I want to thank the Board of School Directors for their trust in choosing me and for the support I have received over the years from students, staff and community members.”

The NPSD Board of School Directors began an extensive search in March for a new superintendent following Dietrich’s announcement that he would retire at the end of his current contract. To guide the search, the school board contracted with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), a consulting firm that specializes in assisting school boards in identifying and recruiting executive-level educational leaders.

There were four phases to the HYA search process: engagement, recruitment, selection, and transition. The engagement phase consisted of designing and planning a process of engaging the Board and stakeholders through interviews, online surveys, and focus groups. Information from these interactions were used in developing a leadership profile and selection criterion that match the priorities of the North Penn community and that meet the unique needs of the students who are served through the NPSD.

“As a board we reviewed and considered more than 25 applicants and interviewed six exceptional candidates including Dr. Bauer,” said Stoll. “Todd’s vision for the future of NPSD, expertise, proven record and existing relationships made him the clear choice for the position, and the board is proud of the process that got us to this point.”

Bauer joined NPSD as high school principal in 2015 and was appointed as NPSD assistant superintendent in 2018. Prior positions include serving as assistant principal in the Central Bucks School District, and middle and high school math teacher in the Souderton School District.

Dr. Bauer has lived in the Harleysville area throughout his life and currently resides there with his wife, Nicole, and two children, Cameron and Brady. After graduating from Souderton Area High School, Dr. Bauer majored in mathematics at Bucknell University where he was also the captain of the men’s swimming team. He earned his Master’s in Instructional Technology from Wilkes University, his administrative certification from Cabrini University, and his Doctorate from Delaware Valley University.

Over the coming days, opportunities will be announced for times when staff, students and community members can meet Dr. Bauer, congratulate him on the new position and discuss his plans for NPSD.
