North Penn High School is offering a Community Hosted Internship Program (C.H.I.P.) for high school juniors and seniors. Students in the program will partner with local businesses to participate in an exploratory internship to gain real-world job experience.

In launching this program, North Penn is seeking local businesses and community members interested in hosting students for an internship. Businesses can fall in any one of the Career Clusters defined by C.H.I.P.:

  1. Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources

  2. Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications

  3. Education and Training

  4. Government and Public Administration

  5. Hospitality and Tourism

  6. Information Technology

  7. Manufacturing

  8. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

  9. Business Management and Administration

  10. Finance

  11. Health Science

  12. Human Services

  13. Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security

  14. Marketing

  15. Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics

Interested businesses should be local to the North Penn area, or be able to effectively host an intern via telework. Student interns must be unpaid in order to receive class credit.

“This program is designed to help students get a better idea of what their future career might look like,” said Christopher Frey, Coordinator of C.H.I.P. “It’s a great way to partner with our community and show students what life after school can be like, and become more prepared for the workforce and beyond.”

Students can participate in one of two internship options. They may complete 70 hours of unpaid work, and receive 0.5 credits, or complete 40 hours of unpaid work and receive 0.3 credits. In addition, students must write an essay summarizing their experiences, and create a resume along with references gained from the internship experience. To complete the program, students will participate in a mock interview with Christopher Frey, coordinator of C.H.I.P.
